Clear Aim for Growth and Efficiency

SL wanted to acheive rapid growth supported by underlying efficiency.

Desire to make data driven descisions, backed by a clear picture of all firm KPIs in real time.

Understanding the people needed to be bought into firm KPIs through effective feedback system based on quantative as well as qualatative feedback.

Rapid Success Led To Growing Pains

The software estate became highly fragmented with data silos.

Finance spent a lot of time exporting, and collating data in spreadsheet on firm performance every month.

Growing departments needed to be managed on their performance quantitively and qualitatively. Lack of timely data of peoples' KPIs meant that managment was difficult.

The Problems:

  • Lack of accurate data: the organisation wasn't making data driven decisions, recruitment of new people was more gut-based than fact based. This was holding back the speed with which SL could grow.

  • Out of date numbers: getting key KPIs and profitability on matters and departments took such a long time, that they'd arrive well over 30 days after the fact. Making it difficult to manage department or do anything about write-offs and lost revenue.

  • Too many services: disjointed estate of software, requiring a long Excel-based process to get to the firm performance numbers.

This took a lot of time for the finance department.

  • Errors in revenue: due to different types of commercial contracts (Fixed Price, T&M and subscriptions) the excel sheet calculations were error prone and the numbers reported often had to be adjusted multiple times.

What Was Done:

  • We integrated 7 different business systems (Timesheets, resourcing, matter management, finance, etc) into Supo platform.

  • We created a process for automatic data clean up and deduplication, and an early warning system indicating of data quality was poor in any of the systems.

  • Supo delivered real time transparent intelligence on revenue, profitability, capacity, work in progress, effiency and many others.

  • We helped the leadership team at Stephenson Law manage the change, train people and ultimately help move towards a data driven organisation.
